Wild Threads features colorful intricate fiber art thread paintings depicting wildflowers and berries of western Massachusetts.

My process was to photograph the flowers in nature, usually with a macro lens. I then had the images printed on lightweight cotton twill by a fabric printing company.

The thread technique I used on my wildflower series is “free-motion quilting.” I place the fabric “sandwich” under the needle of my machine and then move it around under the needle. I cover most of the fabric with thread. Some areas match the color of the fabric, and in a few places I use accent colors show off the thread work.
