You probably know me best for my three dimensional flowers, but for the next couple of months I am trying something new. In my most recent series of flowers I was creating all of my own fabrics. I really got into the fun of designing geometric patterns and I got the idea to "draw" with them. I have a computer "mouse" that looks like a pen and I can use it to draw in Photoshop. I loaded all of my original patterns (designs) as if they were paints on a palate and started drawing pictures with them. It is fun and new for me, because I have never drawn before (other than drawings as a child). My lines wobble a little and sometimes things come out a bit wonky but I decided I like it that way!
I take the pictures I have drawn and get them printed on fabric. Then I quilt over the top to add depth, detail, and drama.
Currently, I am working on a stack of pancakes- this is the "practice" quilt. It will be a taller poster for a juried show which I plan on entering.
So here is what I won't do: I won't let not being perfect stop me from trying this new thing. I won't let "not good enough" slow me down. Soon I plan to apply the technique to my three dimensional flowers and that will be a whole new adventure!
I look forward to seeing you at my solo exhibit at the Rinnova Gallery in Westfield MA. The artist's reception is October 7th, 2016 6-8 pm.
