Well, I finally did it! I was racking my brain trying to decide how to title my new collection and I also needed a title for the exhibit at Black Birch Vineyard (Aug-Sept 2016). As I was feeding my donkeys and horse I was reflecting on how naming art pieces and naming animals is a similar process and an honor. That is when it came to me, to name my flowers with human names rather than title them!
So, I decided to give each flower and leaf a human name. And since my work is a largely based on the technique of quilting, I decided to give my pieces the names that I associate with quilters who came before me. (Popular names from 1910-1930.) Of course I thought of female names first, but then some of my art seemed like it called for a man's name.
The title of the Black Birch Vineyard show is, "Irma and Doris Go Wine Tasting". I will be titling the other pieces in the show and will reveal the titles with images of the work closer to the show. The piece above is the centerpiece of the show and shares the title, "Irma and Doris Go Wine Tasting". It is 6-feet-tall and magnificent if I do say so myself! Each leaf has it's own name too (some leaves will be sold separately).
