New Art Quilts, one with a Realistic Stone Wall and Daffodils

"Stone Wall with Daffodils" is my husband's new favorite. He says it reminds him of home. I love this piece too. It combines two of my favorite techniques, the 3D flowers and photo transfer- thread painting.

First I took a photo of a stone wall. Then I had it printed on fabric by Spoonflower onto cotton sateen. I "painted" on top of the fabric with free-motion quilting, then I added the three dimension elements on top of that. All of the fabrics - leaves- flowers- mulch were created by me. I altered photos I had taken of nature and created these prints. You will be seeing much more of that technique from me in the near future.

I was think back to the first time I work with photo transfers sometime around 2000. I actually taught a little class on photo quilts at a local shop back then. Wow, things sure are different in 2016! A nice digital camera, good version of Photoshop, a company like Spoonflower to do the printing and I feel like the sky is the limit.
