Original Art by Dawn Allen
Jack is celebrating life. He embrases adventure, always shows up for a party, tells the best jokes, and enjoys pranks.
For the "Irma and Doris go Wine Tasting" exhibit I created over 20 individual leaves. "Jack Celebrates" is the largest. I photographed a grape leaf, then traced the lines that I wanted to emphasize on the computer. I used interesting patterns which I created digitally to fill in the segments of the leaves.
Jack was the 17th most popular name in 1920. I named the flowers (and leaves) in this series after popular names from the early 1900's as a reference to the quilters who came before me. My maternal grandfather was named Jack, and while I don't think many Jacks in his era were quilters, I enjoyed choosing a few male names for my pieces.
